narrow shallow shallow narrow..

the above is NOT a tongue twister, neither isit some rubbish I cooked up, but over the week, I've met people with narrow mindsets. I dont know how to put it, its kindof like a love-hate relationship that would allow people to label me as contradicting myself. Honestly I cant tell you a reason why, but it is apparently so. Even for people who are serving in other churches in Singapore, some have narrowest of narrow mindsets.

For example, what is the problem of having good sound doctrine coupled with excellence? Does not our God deserve the best? Does not our God ask us to build Him a great House? I dont understand why people think we are too "commercialised". I know we Chinese are traditional and still adhere to traditions like, Chinese New Year, WEAR RED, DONT WEAR BLACK. If not no good luck will come to you. I remember one year, I told my mum, I dont bother what everyone else will say, it is perfectly fine to wear black. She obviously fumed and I was the victim of her wrath. But still I abhor the willingness to be flexible. If things can be done in a simpler way, why not? Maybe thats why Im an engineer because engineers love and I really mean LOVE simplicity.

The Word says new wine cannot be poured on old wine skin, if people do not take away the old, and throw in the new, obviously there cannot be any change in mindset. UNTIL they can be convinced in themselves that THIS is the way to go, then they will still stick to what works. If your members are convinced that by saying this week in week out, that will get you off their back, then they'll jolly well do it. There is so much we can do to change a life, but yet if a person is as stubborn as a mule, efforts will come to nought. My dad always tells me the story of the frog in the well, and it is true. I have seen nothing yet. I have yet to step into a Big Four company (stepping in Goldman to wait for krys so does NOT count.). I have yet to see how big petroleum companies operate. I have yet to see how an actual plant is being run overseas. (trust me, the ones in Jurong Island are PUNY).

The art of globalisation.

We have to realise..

its not about you.
its not about your neighbour.
its not about your family.
its not about your community.
its not about your neighbourhood.
its not about your nation.
it IS about the world.

Yes I see it all, but I wonder where would I be now IF I saw the big scale much much earlier. Business people HAVE to dream big simply because limiting yourself to Singapore alone does not make you king. Economics, politics all come into play. They determine a nation's stability. Are people going to invest in a place where theres so much commotion? it is a trick question. If you are thinking, SIAO no way! My investments sure CHAM! then think again. Wouldnt iraqis or palestinians need to rebuild whatever has been lost? There IS a need there! Then again, a trade off. In ALMOST EVERYTHING, there are tradeoffs. Then, people make decisions.

A compromise made simply because you VALUE something MORE than the other. More often than not, we try to have the best of both worlds. Its like having a buffet spread of various cuisines. You WANT TO TRY EVERYTHING, but yet you want to lose weight. I'd love to focus on one thing than specialise in another. Someone asked me, "why didnt you take business?" I told her, I'd like to! All the people in Business School are getting like As on their transcripts, why not? But no. I chose Engineering for who I am.(and partly because business can be picked up anywhere and EVERYWHERE) Not because I like to assume (they say it makes an ass out of you and me), but because I like to be systematic. I like to look at the overview step by step. More importantly, Engineers are simple minded. They LOVE simplicity.

If you ask me about politics, I will tell you, it is EXACTLY HOW people talk/quarrel/be good friends. If you ask me about business and trade, I will tell you, it is EXACTLY HOW people say "exchange leh" (Forex) or "i buy from you" or "i sell to you" or how I would normally say it " SHARE" and "together leh" (consortium). All these principles are just simply magnified and projected onto the global scale. Terms and conditions are just a nice way of putting it. Yes, I am layman, and I love layman because I understand.

So widening our scope isnt that difficult after all.

just a matter of removing the old wine skin.

If I were you, I'll remove it everyday. =)

I read in Xinhong's blog about the Men's Movement, and I am in full support for it because in no time, they are going to be the next generation out there for Singapore. We're all gonna grow old and die. But they arent. In army we always have the lao jiaos (Old timers) to teach the xin jiaos (New timers). And we'll teach the newbies what we know.

Yes, the future is bleak. and I foresee that we'll have problems with the environment, oil/natural resource, and water. Urgency? Noooo, people are still yaya papaya. But yet, God has called us to be problem solvers. Then how?

As the sergeants and officers in army will say :" You think I thought WHO CONFIRM?!?!?"
