how anointed was my playing until I listened for myself my own recordings I did before I came. Quite a random thing because iTunes was on shuffle mode, and somehow the recording came through the speakers. Quickly turned down the volume if not the whole hall would've heard my singing and playing.. Must be considerate you know. But then as I listened, the Spirit knocked on the door of my heart and I was deeply encouraged.
I guess we all do need little reminders that serve as ego-boosters for our soul. =)

dreams versus vision
2 Cor 4:18 " while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things are not seen are eternal."
When we talk about things which cannot be seen, what comes to mind?
God? Holy Spirit? Jesus?
Inner emotion?
Dreams?
Vision?
I used to think visions and dreams were similar in one another, but yet I realise now that they can be so different. My dad used to quote one of his all time famous sayings (only known between me and my sister and a couple of cousins) " Dreams are for free." And we would DREAD the long speeches he would give. The fact that he used to take religious studies in O levels dosent entirely mean this is totally spiritual from the black book we read daily. But yet, it brings an important truth and fertilizer for our ground (heart). It dosent hurt to dream about the future, it dosent hurt to explore areas where your heart desires. In fact, dreams allow us to break barriers of reality.
Vision, however, takes dreams to a much deeper level. Visions take you somewhere. They take you to be who God wants you to be. They give you a gauge on where you're heading, a purpose, a destination. Visions are REAL! You may not be there yet, but you are on your way to getting there. Vision syches yourself up for the things to come. Vision confirms that you are a child of God and you are about your Father's business. One thing I love about vision is that, it is more often than not, within your capacity.
The Bible says, let the young man see vision and the old man dream dreams. Here, we can see the emphasis God places on the youth. The youth of today complain about relationships, exam stress, parents, money, gossip, entertainment. In reference to Xinhong's blog about teenage angst, I totally stand by his statement that there is no such thing as teenage angst. What youths need today are mentors whom they can look up to, to see as a role model that they are ABLE to succeed in life. That in life, nothing is impossible. It dosent take only a pep talk from a person who came out from rags to riches to change a life. To nurture is a process and the youth has to want it so bad for himself/herself.
Youths of today are volatile to the influences around them. They want to be "cool" and "accepted" in their community. They will feel pressured when people around them do well while they are not. In the long run, if things do not improve, they will have a negative insight on life and think that this is ALL life has to offer. As a youth, I used to ask my friends "hows life?" and the most common reply was "Life sux." or sucks. or various permuatations and combinations of it. Thats because they have not seen the light in the midst of darkness. Darkness exists, because there is no light. Light and darkness cannot co-exist!
Light brings victory of darkness.
Light brings vision.
Light brings warmth.
Light brings security.
Light draws people.
Light allows you to stand out from the crowd.
More often than ever, we pray for ourselves individually, the cellgroup, the church, the body of Christ, to shine for the Lord in the market place. It is not wrong to pray for people to be drawn to you. In fact, by default, people should be drawn to you in the first place simply by the fact that Christ is in you. It is a great thing to be involved with the youth. Embrace it.
In youths, we see our future.
In youths, we see a potential for them to do supercede us.
In youths, we see radical-ness.
In youths, they are our only hope.
For us, our time is now.
Sigh I am getting old.

Missing City Harvest Church.
After watching Pst Alex Abraham lay hands on Pastor Kong, I am more than ever convinced that God is moving in our church. Those who wish to watch the re-enactment, heres the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXmfCAruRUs
I've heard of the 2 week daily prayer meetings in the Jurong West building, the testimony of the 60 seconds of fame event, SOT graduation and all of the wonderful things I've missed out on. Sometimes I can't help but think, was there a better plan or not? Such a waste of time to look back and think what could have been right? I know. But I guess being here has its pros too.. hahaha I feel so much more relaxed that theres lesser things to commit too. Then again, the danger still lies in being too comfortable. Probably the key while I'm here is to develop deeper spiritual hunger..
Every now and then, I'll re-listen the same sermon that Pastor preached for the 2005 Emerge conference, the one on Jabez (thanks sarah!). Without fail, I'll feel convicted in my spirit to go a little deeper each time. I think the biggest fallacy is: Big men dont cry. How can that ever be? God has emotions, so does Jesus (he wept, turned tables (not the DJ kind)), so I dont see what is wrong for big grown men to express their emotions freely. Tearing in the presence of the Almighty should not be a limiting factor. It means God is touching you, so why then should you withold yourself from that?
I've heard of countless guys that tell me, "oh I felt like crying, but didnt cos scared paiseh". What on earth is there to be paiseh about? Girls? Comon, dont tell me your face is more important than the touch of God. Pastor Kong could be seen in the video wiping off his tears before continuing to minister to the congregation. The danger here is when people dont identify with their emotion and display a strong front, they can eventually become emotionally shut down by just brushing everything aside. Then their kids will also suffer because their parents dont love them enough. Where the Spirit is, there is liberty, so let loose the tears and go on your knees.
If there's one person I have to thank after this semester, it'll be Christopher. He's done quite abit for me inspite of all his work and duties. He spends a considerable amout of time on the computer typing out cell group and service sermons, sometimes leader's meeting sermons if any. He keeps me closer to home by updating me on events, whats going on in church, the next big thing, how are the members that I used to take. Haha, like what Jieyun aptly put it, Im like an imaginary friend. She talks to me but dosent see me. No worries, I'll guarantee you'll see more of me when I'm back (literally MORE of me, think Im getting fat)! So thanks Chris, though sometimes irritating (never failing to see your chat window pop up on my screen EVERYDAY), I appreciate all you've done for me and I cant thank you enough. You're always there to meet my spiritual cravings for the Word and never fail to deliver. I have no regrets for believing in you!
Possibly the greatest thing I could thank God for is for Youtube. Though the internet connection is probably a million times slower than Singnet Broadband, at least there are youtube-ians putting up videos of Pastor Kong preaching, Harvest Highlights, the latest worship songs etc. While watching them there is a distinct feeling of plugging back in to the home chuch and the bose speakers makes it sound as if I am physically there. I HEART City Harvest Church!
With that, I'll leave with a video of WAHLAU.. okay nono Walau Seribu rebah in Chinese, whoever she is, she certainly is annointed!

我从来不曾怀疑过
到底你有多么爱我
我生命里的每一分钟
都有你看顾着我
I've never doubted why you loved me so much
Every minute of my life you took care of me
有的时候黑暗临到
有的时候巨浪狂风
我心依然满有平安
因为有你看顾我 我的主
Sometimes there are dark moments, Sometimes there are huge thunderstorms
But I am peaceful because you watch over me, My God.
不管前面道路有多困苦
耶稣你永远是我的帮助
只要有你在生命中永远看顾
我必能一路永跟随我的主
No matter how hard the road lies ahead, Jesus you are always my help in times of need
If you watch over me this entire life, I will definitely follow you my Lord.

Emo-ness unleashed in the form of songwriting..
-verse1-
I don't know, if I am the one for you in this life
I can't help, hearing my voice calling your name
Cos' when I'm, trying so hard not to look in your eyes
Maybe I, have fallen in love with you
-chorus-
I can't so describe, how I'm feeling deep in side
So much more that I can say, with your touch it feels so right
Oh my you're so near, all the time in this place
For I know in my heart, I will never let you go
In this lifetime.....
Do you know why.. oh baby
Cos you're just so beautiful to me
-verse2-
Well tonight, maybe this time I can hear you breathe
Its a life, to see you smile with tears in your eyes
They may say, that you're just a girl in this spinning world
In my heart, you're like the world to me
-bridge-
Touch my hand, Feel my heart
Hold me close and you'll find me..
you'll find me..
_______________________________________________________________
Another song in the making..
-prechorus-
I may not sing as well as Clay or Reuben
I may not be the cutest guy
I may not look like Leonardo di Caprio
But I know one thing..
-chorus-
It's you who make me stronger
Need you more than ever
You're the reason why Im singing for you
You could've ever wondered
Why life's so much better
Theres a love that surrounds my whole world
I don't know, if I am the one for you in this life
I can't help, hearing my voice calling your name
Cos' when I'm, trying so hard not to look in your eyes
Maybe I, have fallen in love with you

First Roadtrip EVER!
From the 14th to the 17th September, Kenneth went on his FIRST roadtrip experience. And he says he had an amazingly great time. He cant go into every single detail, but pictures of the trip on facebook should be up, depending on the unusually slow uploading. Here's afew main events:
1) The 5 hour car ride with lots of moo-moos, moo-moos and more moo-moos. Black, brown, beige, white. You name it they have it. Horsies and meh-mehs too. The minute he stepped out of the car to take pictures, all the animals ran off! Saddening.
2)Beaches, and weird treasures. Like the jelly that looked like fish poop (according to friends). but its TRANSPARENT and jelly like. Kenneth did his research and found that fish poop is brown. not transparent. Anyway. He found a coral and a starfish washed on shore, but sadly the starfish was dead long ago and the coral disintegrated when he got back. There goes the "treasure".
3) Captivating views from the top of mountains. plus Wind farms.( You know the big turbine fans that swirl for electricity? yes that. and it was HUGE). Rock formations. Yes the pictures are all on Facebook. I think. You'll understand what I mean by the view. Awesome-ness.
4) Nearly knocking down a kangaroo.
5) TONS AND TONS OF EMO POSES.
6) Our home-cooked breakfast. and dinners.
7) Kenneth's 4 other guy friends that made the trip memorable.
Pictures speak a thousand words, so I'll let the pictures do the talking.
It was a great relief from all the stress at school. loved it. For A MOMENT, I didnt feel like a student anymore. Wait, let me rephrase, I was free from everything. Losing myself, losing my identity, losing all responsibility. And it was a GREAT feeling. No agendas, no deadlines, no nothing on my mind. Somehow the scenic therapy worked. For some reason, the winds were music to my inner soul. For some reason, what was set before my eyes blinded all worry, problems, etc. For some reason, my heart beat was regulated and I could breathe easy, rather than having assignments and tests up to my neck.
Honestly if there was any more breaks I'll definitely go for a getaway. The only minus is, everything floods back on the way home. But at least my mind is not in the same condition as before.
let us be transformed by the renewing of the mind.
With recession smashing through continents, nobody is spared from it. I paid more school fees than I should =(. Aussie Dollar went down to 1.17?!?!??! goodness. I heard from friends who went back to Singapore during the 1 week term break, ERPs have VARIABLE PRICES. oh dear. I think we have to walk to grab food. Everything is going up because people want to recoup their losses. Reminder to self: Earn enough to tide through recession lest I go bankrupt.
Anyway, to all those Manchester United fans. Now you guys dont really have a sponsor. Especially those in England. AIG employees always buy up the front row seats to all Manchester United's games. NO WONDER AIG went bust. Come and watch soccer instead of working. Of course AIG got bought over. What to do. At least you guys have higher chances of getting front row seats and smelling Cristiano Ronaldo's body odour when he takes a throw-in or a corner kick.
EXAMS ARE IN 5 WEEKS. oh dear. I NEED TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE! Meanwhile. Saturday is Gone. I'll have half a sunday and the whole night to finish 2 irritatingly difficult questions. God. I need your wisdom till the day finals are over. Then I can ORD in peace without worrying about my results. at least 2 HDs please?!?? and 2 Ds. Of course. MODERATION IN MY FAVOUR.

Love going out to Singapore
I'm gonna be on a road trip these couple of days, wont be around till wed, unless I can get free internet access somewhere. And I hear of people getting attached by the dozens, oh dear. Seems like God is building a human ark or something, calling people 2 by 2, and then pouring a sea of love for 40 days and 40 nights. Getting attached is definitely something I would want to consider doing, and looking at where I am now.. hoho, no girlfriend for me until 25 when I graduate. Nah I REFUSE to believe there is noone. There MUST be someone out there who can take my rubbish. (NOT THE RUBBISH CLEANER! OR THE RUBBISH CHUTE.)
But honestly I think it is okay for me to be open about such issues not because I want to create a topic point for you people to talk about, like kenneth likes so and so and etc, but because we are all mature adults. Aside from being Godly and all that requirements that most should know, I think Im basically easy to please. The simplest of encouragements makes me smile from ear to ear, think its because people keep saying that Im fat or other things that put me down, that makes me ultra sensitive to such ego-boosting comments and I'll brood over it the entire day. Well, what to do. SNAG (sensitive new age guy) what.
I think I've found someone quite sometime ago that really captivated me. I mean shes quite a simple girl but yet, she has an enormous heart inside. Problem is, dont know if she likes me back.
Her capacity to love is really kinda amazing. Love for her members, love for people, love for family. Though she can be blur, but yet she does have that cheeky ambition tingling somwhere to do something she really wants. Shes the someone who does silly things at times, and yet dosent know. She's someone who encourages and finds out that her encouraging words are displayed on the little notes of my laptop. She finds out somethings about me and yet keeps forgetting and asks me the very same question the next time (sounds like 50 first dates). Shes a person who gives so much all the time that sometimes she dosent have "me" time for herself. She dares to make change the only constant in her life. She wants excellence for herself and for others. She cares so much for her friends that she dosent know what to do for her 21st birthday. Shes the someone who loves God.
I guess, if there was a letter I'd write it'll probably be something like......
something I'd email her MYSELF.
Ps. A note for you:
Hey! Get lots of rest yeah, not easy to balance so much stuff at a go, but you can do it! You can do better than this! Remember thats what you said to me, likewise it can be said the same for you! Circumstances may not be favourable, but if God allows it to happen, then you definitely can overcome it. People arent perfect, but we've to love the imperfect with perfect love isnt it? Irritating they can be, but cheer up, its not forever. Smile, it makes anyone beautiful.
Love from down under.
Who else but me?! haha.
But honestly I think it is okay for me to be open about such issues not because I want to create a topic point for you people to talk about, like kenneth likes so and so and etc, but because we are all mature adults. narrow shallow shallow narrow..
the above is NOT a tongue twister, neither isit some rubbish I cooked up, but over the week, I've met people with narrow mindsets. I dont know how to put it, its kindof like a love-hate relationship that would allow people to label me as contradicting myself. Honestly I cant tell you a reason why, but it is apparently so. Even for people who are serving in other churches in Singapore, some have narrowest of narrow mindsets.
For example, what is the problem of having good sound doctrine coupled with excellence? Does not our God deserve the best? Does not our God ask us to build Him a great House? I dont understand why people think we are too "commercialised". I know we Chinese are traditional and still adhere to traditions like, Chinese New Year, WEAR RED, DONT WEAR BLACK. If not no good luck will come to you. I remember one year, I told my mum, I dont bother what everyone else will say, it is perfectly fine to wear black. She obviously fumed and I was the victim of her wrath. But still I abhor the willingness to be flexible. If things can be done in a simpler way, why not? Maybe thats why Im an engineer because engineers love and I really mean LOVE simplicity.
The Word says new wine cannot be poured on old wine skin, if people do not take away the old, and throw in the new, obviously there cannot be any change in mindset. UNTIL they can be convinced in themselves that THIS is the way to go, then they will still stick to what works. If your members are convinced that by saying this week in week out, that will get you off their back, then they'll jolly well do it. There is so much we can do to change a life, but yet if a person is as stubborn as a mule, efforts will come to nought. My dad always tells me the story of the frog in the well, and it is true. I have seen nothing yet. I have yet to step into a Big Four company (stepping in Goldman to wait for krys so does NOT count.). I have yet to see how big petroleum companies operate. I have yet to see how an actual plant is being run overseas. (trust me, the ones in Jurong Island are PUNY).
The art of globalisation.
We have to realise..
its not about you.
its not about your neighbour.
its not about your family.
its not about your community.
its not about your neighbourhood.
its not about your nation.
it IS about the world.
Yes I see it all, but I wonder where would I be now IF I saw the big scale much much earlier. Business people HAVE to dream big simply because limiting yourself to Singapore alone does not make you king. Economics, politics all come into play. They determine a nation's stability. Are people going to invest in a place where theres so much commotion? it is a trick question. If you are thinking, SIAO no way! My investments sure CHAM! then think again. Wouldnt iraqis or palestinians need to rebuild whatever has been lost? There IS a need there! Then again, a trade off. In ALMOST EVERYTHING, there are tradeoffs. Then, people make decisions.
A compromise made simply because you VALUE something MORE than the other. More often than not, we try to have the best of both worlds. Its like having a buffet spread of various cuisines. You WANT TO TRY EVERYTHING, but yet you want to lose weight. I'd love to focus on one thing than specialise in another. Someone asked me, "why didnt you take business?" I told her, I'd like to! All the people in Business School are getting like As on their transcripts, why not? But no. I chose Engineering for who I am.(and partly because business can be picked up anywhere and EVERYWHERE) Not because I like to assume (they say it makes an ass out of you and me), but because I like to be systematic. I like to look at the overview step by step. More importantly, Engineers are simple minded. They LOVE simplicity.
If you ask me about politics, I will tell you, it is EXACTLY HOW people talk/quarrel/be good friends. If you ask me about business and trade, I will tell you, it is EXACTLY HOW people say "exchange leh" (Forex) or "i buy from you" or "i sell to you" or how I would normally say it " SHARE" and "together leh" (consortium). All these principles are just simply magnified and projected onto the global scale. Terms and conditions are just a nice way of putting it. Yes, I am layman, and I love layman because I understand.
So widening our scope isnt that difficult after all.
just a matter of removing the old wine skin.
If I were you, I'll remove it everyday. =)
I read in Xinhong's blog about the Men's Movement, and I am in full support for it because in no time, they are going to be the next generation out there for Singapore. We're all gonna grow old and die. But they arent. In army we always have the lao jiaos (Old timers) to teach the xin jiaos (New timers). And we'll teach the newbies what we know.
Yes, the future is bleak. and I foresee that we'll have problems with the environment, oil/natural resource, and water. Urgency? Noooo, people are still yaya papaya. But yet, God has called us to be problem solvers. Then how?
As the sergeants and officers in army will say :" You think I thought WHO CONFIRM?!?!?"

The biggest mountain of my life. Lao Fo Shan.
I was just reminded of this Mountain today, and Im sure that it popped in for a reason. During my Recce course, we were to take part in this Exercise Long Walk. Basically, you are broken up into teams of 4, coupled with maps, compasses, and signal sets, and all the necessary equipment, including a Full Battle Order plus 2 Full water bottles as well as rations. Mind you, its not in Singapore where you conquer Bukit Timah Hill or Mount Faber. Its in the rural areas of Taiwan where no eye has seen or no ear has heard. The weather was also a killer. Lao Fo Shan (Old Buddha Mountain) was the largest mountain I've ever conquered. If you've seen my pictures of my trip, you've probably seen it somewhere. Though it seems short in the picture, wait till you climb it yourself.
I recall distinctly...
-how demoralised I was when my 2 commanders left the team and how me and my buddy were with my officer.
-how I wanted to give up when we only left the starting point 4 hours ago.
-how I was yearning for a break but yet I had to move on because there was a time quota to meet.
-how I nearly fainted in the middle of the first night.
-how I struggled to cope with most of the weight because my buddy couldnt take it anymore.
-how I carried almost 2 and a half times my weight when my commander sprained his ankle in the middle of nowhere.
-how I went in search of help, in search of a clear and safe path for the team.
-how I walked blindly in pitch darkness in the wilderness when I was dead tired.
-how I felt like giving up with abrasions on the inwards of my thighs and blisters on the soles and heels of my feet.
-how I quarrelled with my buddy because he drank much more and didnt leave enough for me.
-how I felt like throwing down the weight on the floor when I was running with it.
-how I complained in my heart and doubted we were in the right direction.
-how I was angry that it hurt when my boots were cutting into my open flesh thanks to the blisters, and my flesh wounds on my thighs, and the 45 degrees (or even steeper) rocky terrain.
I saw for myself how my character was like. Even though it was a 4day 3 night exercise, but my team completed it in 3days and 2nights. And I know what it means to really "press on for the upward calling of God". It was almost like a living hell for 3 days and 2nights. But in my twilight months of my army life, I felt that it was a good fight of faith. Sometimes I'm blinded by so many things happening, that we dont really see the point of doing things. Sometimes I'm busy treating my wounds, complaining that I dont get encouraged, even my peers fall.
Sometimes I'm blinded by emotion and I speak through my heart, not my mind. Sometimes I fail to see the hidden agenda. Sometimes all that I've planned for self-destructs when I actually do it. Sometimes I simply need to take a rest and recuperate. And then I realise:
Big mountains need Big willing hearts. Would I be stupid enough to go on a Long Walk for nothing? (Okay in army context its compulsory because we are called for it, but all the more it highlights that we SHOULD have a PURPOSE and a VISION to run for.)
No one is perfect. It is no mean feat to carry a burden more than twice your weight up a mountain that will take you hours to climb. And it dosent help when people dont encourage you so it seems you are just alone. Bible says we are more than conquerors. Bible says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Bible says that all things work for good for those who please Him. You can reach the top, but yet not be where you are. I recall being at a mountain top and yet it was raining, it was windy, it was not my destination. It was not where I was meant to be. Guys, there is always a bigger mountain than where you are at now. I read in Sarah's blog that the way up is the way down. Indeed in the natural it is true. HOW ON EARTH ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO CLIMB ANOTHER MOUNTAIN BY JUST GOING UP?
The only way, is down, and then up another mountain.
In life, there are many mountains. It is not a question of who conquers how many, but the attitude of conquering. I'm sure there are people thinking of conquering Mt Everest. Not because they "lan lan suck thumb" have to, but they WANT to. not once, but multiple times. Some of us climb a teeny weeny Bt Timah Hill tired already. They are aware of the risks of death, frostbite, accidents with the cords, crevices, terrain breaking off. So many risks. But inspite of those, they press forward for the upward calling and the prize. When interviewed, they said they have the love and passion for climbing.
I'm not pressing for you guys to go do something stupid. I'm pressing for you guys to break comfort for a worthy cause. I'm pleading for you guys as men serving the nation because the nation is crying out for a Saviour. Not only the nation, the world. It is predicted that the ice cap will go by 2030. If its true, then what we work for in our lives dont matter anymore. Money dosent matter. Status dosent matter. Education dosent matter. National disputes dont matter.
Its time to wake up and do the right thing.
Arise and Build. Not just the building, but lives.
